ELECTION EXPENSES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. David Jones' election expenses hav# been returned at i£93 5s sd. DUNEDIX DRAINAGE BOAKD. : Duncdln, Last Night. At it meeting of the Drainage Boari to-night correspondence relating to the recent appointment of a draughtsman was considered, objection having been taken to the application of a man named Xoruuui Low, who took the degree of Bachelor of Engineering at Canterbury College. It is understood that the objection was based on the nationality of Mr. Low. The Board decided to adhere to its decision of appointing him, and it is stilted that the resignation of the engineer (Mr. Slingcr) is impending as u result.
OFF TO A LONELY ISLAND. Invercargil, Last Night When the Government steamer Hinemoa sailed from Bind' yesterday for tb« southern islands' circuit she took a party of eleven young men who are going to replace the shepherds working for Captain Tucker on Campbell Island. They took with them a whale-boat and an oil launch, and in addition to doing the shearing and other pastoral work of the island sbeep-run they will at intervals be occupied in whaling.
