The Auckland - Otago representative cricket match for the Plunket Challenge Shield was commenced to-day in beautiful weather and on a perfect wicket. The attendance numbered about two thousand. Otago won the toss and elected to bat. There was a fine stand made for the first wicket, an even century being registered. The feature of the innings was the score of 144 made Iby Wilson. TJp to the afternoon te.v adjournment the batting was of the careful order, the scores then being 264 for three wicketts. On resumption, the team took more risks, with the result that the wickets fell quickly, the last falling at 5.40 with the score at 338. Howden was the most successful trundler, taking seven wickets for 87 runs. Auckland has made a bad start, Wordsworth bowling Jones the first ball of the innings.
