a g m h IMPORTANT ADDRESS TO THE : if VICEROY. if Calcutta, December 23. d Gratifying response to the- Viceroy's i recent appeal to the people was eujif bodied in the presentation at Calcutta il yesterday of a most loyal address exif pressing 'gratitude for the administrative reforms announced, and promising enthusiastic co-operation with the executive authority. The deputation which presented the address consisted of a hundred of the foremost men from the two divisions of Bengal, also several extremist leaders. Lord Minto, the Viceroy, in welcom- ' ing the address ->' dno more moment- '' ous asuranees had !been ever offered 1 any Viceroy. They struck a keynote of " sympathetic mutual understanding, " upon which so much depends.
