THE SEASIDE HOLIDAYS
The popularity of th o New Plymouth beach is unquestioned. The marvel is that the hundreds of children disporting themselves along the sands and shrimphunting in the pools on Boxing Day were not thousands. Tire strip of sandy beach extending from 'IV lic-jui on the east to the Sngarloaves on the west was that day as it is on every summer holiday, a gladsome sight. Ihe committee is still able to arrange tent accommodation for mauv parties.
The great topic of conversation is the seaside picnic on New Vear's Day. The Seaside improvement Committee lias received intimation that 11M S Cambrian will arrive licrc on Wcducs' ! day, and remain till Sunday, 3rd jirox., and the Commander has iiol'illcd his wilinguess to assist in cvvry way the publie who desire to inspect the vessel. This opportunity uf visiting a real live nian-o'-war is bound to be fully availed «|- Tlie officers of the vessel and the olhcers and lads of Hie training sbi,, Amokiirn are to be entertained |,v the committee. The olliccrs have been invited to the electric- lijrht sports gathering in the Recreation Grounds on Vt ednesday night. On Thursday afternoon they will be driven into the country, and on their return will be entertained at afternoon tea in the Recreation Spurts Ground. On Saturday (he Visitors will be present at the garden party.
Induy is the day of the big seaside picnic. Hot water, tea, sugar and milk will be provided free to all picnickers. Afternoon tea, Jolly, fruit, ice cream and soft drink booths will be creeled along the foreshore. The amusementsinclude children's races, varied sports, mixed bathing (dressing tents will be provided). Thousands are expected, and adequate arrangements are being made for conveyance by launch and steamer to H.M.S. Cambrian.
