TURF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa"). Gold Lace and Golden Water passed through New Plymouth on Friday night, and All Red and piabolo on Saturday, all en route for the Auckland meeting. shuja was- very unlucky at Daanevirke, being galloped on during the running of the Summer Handicap. Both his hind legs were opened up just below the hocks, and at first sight it looked as if the promising Soult colt would never sport silk again. A veterinary, surgeon examined the horse and expressed the opinion that no permanent injury had been done, and that a spell of a few months would remedy luatters. This is very bad luck for the colt's own- 1 er, as the horse had valuable engagements at Auckland and was goung so well prior to the accident that he would probably have Bcored before long. R. Hatch, who tops the winning riders in the Dominion, was in great form at Dannevirke, and piloted the winners of four consecutive events, finishing up with five winning rides for the meeting. The veteran 'chaser Pipi was recently kicked by another horse and had to be destroyed. Gold Crest will take on the Manawatu Stakes, in which race C. Jenkins will pilot him, and the Gold Reef horse will not make the trip to Auckland. In another column bookmakers are notified by advertisement that applications for licenses for the Taranaki Christmas meeting -will be received until 10 a.m. on Saturday next. ■ Trainers', jockeys' and horse passes for the Taranaki meeting will be procurable at the secrefforyfs office on Thursday evening at 7.30.
