CADET ENCAMPMENT.
The school cadets struck camp on I -...■ Saturday. There was one deserter oa j Wat morning, and he could not be re- ; i»ptured in time to be* dealt with be-' Yore striking camp. ' On Friday night the ' camp-fire ' was glowing, and the Major and the other pfficers, with the boys, had a pleasant evening, and "loud was the srag." . Colonel Loveday visited the camp on ;■ Friday evening and Saturday, Sergeant Bray, of Okato, took the ; prize for the top score in prize-firing. , ■ Waitara won the school inspectors' challenge cup for the tidiest tent for ; the week.
The Mayor's challenge clip for buglcis ,was won by Bugler Elliot, of the Central School, and takes the position of ißattallion Bugler. / The general consensus of opinion was - that the Waifhra-Urenui and Oknt-o I toys were the best-behaved in the i t«ap. Not one of thcrn had to interb. r Mew the Major. The • conduct of the camp was' excellent. There was the <' Usual small contingent, of course, whose 'taimal spirits got the better of their discipline, but oa the whole the boys' -■ Whaviour was good.
