VESSELS IN DISTRESS.

HOPELESS POSITION OIC CIIAKLKS IfiDWAItD. By Telegraph.— Press Association. YVan'gnmii, Lust Night. The position of the Clmrk's JCuwaril in unchanged. The vessel seems to be sinking into the suml, and as she is full ot water and the waves are passing right over her the chances of .salvage are remote.

POSITION OF TIIH UltUliOA." THE CAPTAIN SAVED. A GALLANT KESCUE. Wanganui, Lust Night. The Ururoa is in the same position, and with the exception of the centreboard and deck gear being smashed, the vessel does not appear to be badly injured. It is thought she may be re-1 floated when the sea moderates. The rescue of Captain Harris was a very gallant affair. A small band, headed by John MeFarlane, a well-known local sail, maker, made several attempts to reach the Ururoa in a ship's boat. They were capsized 011 several occasions during tli'e afternoon, and though they got alongside tlie stow twice, they were driven uway by the sea, which was very heavy. Just after dark, they made n determined effort, and succeeded.

A. liedpath n'nd Son, Christehnreh, who are the New Zealand agents for the scow Ururoa, which went ashore ivear Wanganui on Thursday night, have been advised that the vessel is a total wreck, and that there is no hope of salving the cargo.
