EGMONT COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Egmont County Council was held at Opunake on Friday, December 11. The Council had called tenders for 'the supply of 2400 yards of metal. K. 11. 'Bayly's tender Has 5s per yard. It was 'iater decided that the contract .should lie for 1200 yards. This contract Mr. 'llnyly now offered io carry out at (is per yard. An animated discission enWd on the subject. It was decided that fresh tenders should lie called for the supply of 1200 yards. A deputation which interviewed the Council pointed out that, as stone could be procured from the river, it was useless to accept tenders for shingle, for I'the Oeo Hiding.—Left in the hands of '■the foreman to report upon. The following tenders were accepted: —SO yards boulders, crushing and cart'ing, Opunake Riding, (!. Yieke.ry, 5s 3d; #0 yards shingle, .Main South Road, and 'IOO yards shingle, Watino Road, Keheley Bros., 4s 8d; 200' yards boulders, l'atiki ■Road, Keheley Bros., 3s Id; 100 yards 'boulder stone, Oeo (Cpper) Road, N. C. Tnnes, 3.s 4d; 100 yards gravel, Oeo ['(Lower) Road. Keheley Bros., 4s (id; iIOO yards of stone between Tc Xamu and Oaonui l'ivers. (!. Yiekery, (is lOd; 'l5O yards of stone between Waiaua and 'Taungatara, G. Vieker.v. 5s Sd. The foreman of Oeo Riding reported: —Main South Road: Considerable dillienlty was experienced in finding sullicient men for spreading, napping stones 'oil gravel, banking up. etc., but by shifting some of the gang from the northern division enabled the work to be kept 'going. Eltliam Road: The contract for delivery of boulder stone, on this road 'has been pushed along during the fine 'weather, mid is now Hearing completion. ■Auroa Road: This road is in a very bad ■slate in the loan area between tin- J'll:tliam and Opunake-Stratfonl roads, 'l'atiki Road: The greater pari of the [old metalled portion of (his road (from ■ tile Main South Road northwards) is completely worn out, and lias been -patched from year to year until it s almost past patching; it really reipiiies 'renewing fur practically (lie whole length.
