ANNUAL GATHERING. Tile annual sports meeting of the 'North Tarunaki Athletic Society was held at Waitara yesterday, afternoon in i'air weather. The attendance was hardly up to the average, but the fields anil the contests were very good. Results:— Maiden Race, 150yds.—F. J. O'Grady and 1). lieorge (dead heat), 1. Also started: C. F. Blow, G, Bicheno, and A. 11. Topuian. In the run-ull D. Ueorge won by a couple of yards. 100 yds Handicap.—First heat: B. i\ Turner, Byds, 1; L. Stohr, syds, 2. Also started: Clow oyds and Holmes 10yds. Time, 10 l-ssec. Second heat: W. Smith, Ovds, 1; F. O'Urady, 10yds, 2. Also ■started: (J. Hooker 7yds, C. 11. Tate oyds, A. Stockman 10yds. Time, 10 2-3 see. North Taranaki Wheel Knee, of £lO, £2, and 10s; two miles.—A. Parkes, scr. 1; W. Parkes, 200 yds, 2; L. H. Wan, 80vds, 3. Also started: Garliek 120.vd.-i, Piilford 150 yds, Sanko 200 yd?, Mills 200 yds, Vincent 40yds, Julian 100 yds, Roebuck 150 yds, Thomas 180 yds, Parker 200 yds. Parker and Pulford fell during the second lap. At the end of the final mile A. Parkes had caught the leaders, and with Wan and Vincent rode in a handy position behind the leading bunch —Thomas, Roebuck, and W. Parkes. At the bell W. Parkes shot to the front, followed by Thomas and Wan, with A. Parkes next. The latter soon displaced Wan. W. Parkes and Thomas led A. Parkes by six lengths entering the straight, but the latter, coming with a great sprint on the outside, caught the leaders thirty yards from the tape, and 'won easily' by a length and a-half. Thomas was in distress twenty yards from home, and came down, allowing Wan to finish third. Thomas, who is a comparatively new rider, gives promise of being a successful rider. Tiute, Umin 1 2-ssec.
