The Inglewood ISorough Council proceeded against .lames Hawkins, owner of the Kailwa.y Livery Stables, at Inglewood, and Frederick Lewis Street, occupier of the same stables, on information which road as follows (a) l!ei|Uiring tin said 'Defendants to abate the nuisanci (namely, an accumulation of liquid manure), anil prohibiting its recur vence ; (b) Specifying the work to lit done in order to abate the nuisance am preventing its recurrence and the time 'within"which such work shall be oarriel out, (e) Making 1 such other order as to the Stipcndary Magistrate may seem fit. Mr. Thomson appeared for the Council and called Dr I'rengley (District Health Officer) and Mr V. ii. Cardmcr (local Health Inspector), and the Town Clerk (Mr \V. Ogier). After hearhg this evidence Hie Magistrate made the following order. Order made as asked for ; work to he carried out in terms of .e----(|uireiuents of the District Health Inspectors report of the Ist of May, 14)08, and notified bv complainants to def"ndants on Bth May, 1!>0S : work to lie commenced on or before the 4th January next, and completed by the 4lh February next. Defendants were ordered to pay costs, namely l!)s court fees, and £2 2s solicitor's fee.
The Truant Inspector (Mr A. Hooker) proceeded against six persons for failing to send children to school ; five were convicted and one dismissed.
Forty-four other cases on the cause lists were either confessed, struck out, or not served. Some old age pensioj work was also transacted.
