' The Finance Committee's report re- ' commended as follows:—That the old < range at Warea be replaced and neces- s sary repairs to buildings be effected; ' that additional drainage and repairs • necessary at Puniho be authorised; that ' a tank and,new stove be provided for < Tatarainiaka; that out-oflices at Oakuva ' receive necessary attention; that at ' Albert road a new tank and stand be supplied; at Lower Kent, new piles to ' i be placed where required and other repairs effected: that the Cardiff committee be informed that the chimney would be attended to during the holidays; that Waitui committee be .paid the £4 previously authorised for earthwork; that the Albert committee bs paid the £lO authorised as the Board's share of cost of shelter shed; that Salisbury committee make necessary repairs to "out-oflie«s, the Board to refund the cost; that the Durham committee's request for attention to the school building be referred to Mr. Trimble, withi power to act; that Huiakama committee be subsidised for work done, to the | extent of 30s, and that they be notified that no further payments will be made for work .unless authorised by the Board; that in Teply to their application for a grant of £2O towards the upkeep of the .swimming baths, the Stratford committee be informed that the Board is .unable to gjant the request, but that under the new regulations which will shortly be issued it will probably be possible for the committee to obtain funds for the purpose; and that in reply to Stratford's letter complaining of the nou-receipt of £l- - water, they be informed that the amount was paid to them on 12th Hay last. DOUGLAS. Messrs. Kennedy and Morison reported that, having visited the Douglas school, now held in the hall, they were of the opinion that the Department should be asked for a grant for the erection of a school building. The Board should endeavor to secure a reserve held by the .Railway Department lying between the railway and township eastward of the Ohura road. They had had another site in view, but had been unable to get a satisfactory reply from the owner. Steps will be tken with a view of acquiring a site. KAIIUI. Mr. <!. A. Adlam reported having visited the Kahui school. He recommended that the committee be granted the £3 promised for clearing the site, and an extra £2 to do a little more, lie had authorised attention to some othe windows to improve the ventilation. The report was adopted, the second payment to be made upon completion of the work. AN ANCIENT EDIFICE.

The Waihi committee forwarded a complaint hy the teacher concerning the insanitary and unsatisfactory selioo! buildings which were productive of chronic' colds. The rafters inside the main room harbored so much dust as to be insanitary, and the desks so old and marked that no paper work could be done on them without the use of a pad. The chairman 0 f the committee stated that the school was the old Waitara school, erected sonic fifty or sixty years ago. and passed on to Waihi some fourteen vears ago. The matter, upon the recommendation of the Finance Committee, was referred to the architect for his report. GENERAL. It was decided that the Cardiff school lie closed for the holidays a week earlier than usual, and resume accordingly. Miss A. Woodman's appointment as sewing teacher at Tataraimaka was confirmed. lllg. Mr. Morisou reported having attended a meeting of householders at York Road to form a new school district. Boundaries were fixed b.v the meeting. These will lie referred to the adjoining committees for their approval.

The Hoard- decided that the members should he allowed a guinea a day for travelling expenses when attending on speeial committees. Me,.»r*. (.'. t. T'rideaux and F. W. Atkinson, commissioners at Leppertoa, forwarded their resignations. .The Tahora committee complained of the non-receipt of the Dominion Day medals. More desks and a tank were needed. These latter will he supplied, and the committee informed that the medals were forwarded. Mr. .lohn Willis, of the Bird Road, wrote dissenting from the Hoard's finding in the recent inquiry into charges against the teacher at the Bird school.— The. Board declined to re-open the question.
