TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The Taranaki Land B'urd held Ks ordinary monthly meeting yesterday. Present: Messrs. F. Simpson (Commissi jiier of Crown Lands), Heslop, McUuggage and Kattenbury. DEPARTMENTAL DISCUSSION. The Board weut into committee to disutss certain matters with Mr. W. C. Kiasiuglon, Under-Secretary of the Lands Department. LAND AI'FLIED FOR. Application for land received since last meeting were approved as follows: E. Eri.indsoii, section 02, block 4, Faritutu, 70 acres, 'renewable lease; T. Browne, s.■■••;.:;i 82, block 10, Pouatu, 100 acres, relic...line 1.-.ise; S. J. Crazier, sections 97, 98 a.,d ~!, block 4, Parituui, i% roods. The valuation for improvements on section 83, block 10, I'ouatu, will be paid over to the former tenant, less costs of resumption. It was decided to obtain-a report from the ranger upon the verbal application of .Mr. J. McAvady that portion of section 1, block 2, Olvura, originally included in the section and added to section 1, block 1, Ohura, occupied by E. M. Clark, be restored to him; or thai a portion of section 23, block 2, Ohura, reserved for scenery, he included in his section for a building site. With regard to residence on section 3,, block lfi, Ohura, selected by G. J. Street, it was resolved to exteud the term for residence for 1-2 months, and any other cases in a similar position to be' left in the hands of the Commissioner, j TRANSFERS. Transfers were approved: —A. Joll t» A. E. Sutton, section S, block 7, Mi ml: W. T. .101 l to A, E. Sutton, section 11, block 11. and section 2, block 12, Mimi (these applications being made in substitution of those received at a previous meeting for a transfer to J. It. Jones); Hope and Macfarlane to J. L. Robinson, section 4, block !), Ohura; 11. .Macfarlane to Janet Robinson, section 8, block 9, Ohura; D. Roe to R. O'Connor and N. L. Findlay, section i), block 5, Egmont; H. I'. Shepherd to E. M. Prideattx, section 25, block 4, and section 7. block 8, Ngatimaru; A. Dean to F. H. Jellyman, section 1, block 8, Ngati-1 maru, iu'substitution of application to j transfer to S. iMedealf; F. F. and W. F. Dowman to A. aid R. McMullian, sections U and 34, block 2, Ngatimaru. It was decided to draw the attention of the head office lo the delay hi the Hope and McFarlanc transfers. IMPORTANT LEGAL ADVICE. The Board was advised that there was no provision in law that morgagecs should be notified of the intention of the Board to forfeit a lease over which they hold security. RANGERS REPORT. E. Toluie reported upon the inspection of sixteen holdings, comprising an area of 11,070 acres. Improvements required to be effected on four holdings, £698; value effected, £355. Of IB tenants required to reside only six had complied. —Defaulters will be asked to explain. RESIDENCE CONDITIONS. The ranger reported on the residence on sections 10. 13, and 33, block 9, Mimi, held by W. D. Cannell.—Resolved that no action was necessary, the conditions having been complied with. The ranger reported as to residence bv W. and A. R. Greenwood on section block 1-2, Waitara; and by A. H. Halcombe on section 10, block 12, Waitara. —Resolved that these selectors must reside upon their holdings in a bona fide manner. A. Keighley explained as to his residence on sections 0, block 2, and section 6, block 5, Aria. —Accepted as satisfactory, but the Board will expect him to build a house on the land in six months. GENERAL. The application of D. R. Hight to select section 72, block 14, Pouatu, as an addition to his holding, was again laid on the table.—Resolved that the ranger's report be adopted, and the land disposed of to the applicant under renewable lease, with the money advanced for improvements added to the capital value of the land, and subject to payment of the valuation for improvements in terms of the ranger's report. D. Mcßeth, solicitor, wrote asking if, in the event of a transfer being approved from T. Hayes of sections in Omona and Mahoe, he would be allowed to sublet the land, as he could not reside on it.—He will be informed that there is no provision in the Land Act to meet the application. The Board approved the plans of the deviations of the Carrington road in the Cape S.D., and the Mohakau road in the Ngatimaru S.D. Titles will be amended accordingly. A schedule of tenants still in arrcnr with rents duo on Ist January last was laid on the table.—Resolved, that authority be obtained to sue for recovery.
The Wairoa Boart Board's proposal for expenditure of €2O 17s 3d, accrued thirds, were approved.
A. Hiekford asked that section 1. block 13. Taurakawa. be sub-divided, and that this and other lands in the locality be opened for selection.—The Commisisoner will interview the Tioads Department and ascertain the position in regard to the road works.
The forfeiture of section' 37. block 11. Opunake. Punehu V.S., was rcseinde.l, upon the application of W. A. Thomas. \V. Kenwood was granted six months' extension of time in wliich to effect improvements on section 4. block 9. Upper Waitara.
•M. M. Walker applied for lease with right of purchase of section 14. block !). Ohura.—Xot entertained. Plans and schedules of eleven sections in block 4. Mahoe, and 14 and 15. Pouatu, surveyed by ff. D. A. Crawford, were laid on the table.—Resolved that the reports be adopted and the land offered for renewable lease, the value of improvements on section 18.. block 15, Pouatu, to be added to the capital value.
The Board adjourned till 11 a.m. today.
