SOUTHLAND WOOL SALES. Uy Telegraph'—Press Association. Invcrcargill, Last Night. The livst wool sale of the season \va3 hold this afternoon. '2S-12 .bales being offered, about WW more than was expected. The wool was hardly up to the usual Southland standard, and was lack-i-.iK-.in lustre and short in staple. The "keenest inquiry was for fine lengthy hogget wool, tlic lop price being lly,cl for some Romncy hogget wool. Taken all over prices were beyond general expectations. AD the usual Home and Continental buyers were; present, and bidding was spirited. By far the largest buyer was Mr. Swift, representing several European and American firms. No merino and very little half-bred were offering. Crossbred, superior to good, ]l'/,d to O'/jd; good medium s>d to Sd; medium inferior 7%<l to I'tVl. strong cross-bred, superior and good il'/.d to S'/jd. good to inferior ()%d to sd.
