ATTEMPTED MURDER.
STABBED IN- THE NECK. AN AUCKLAND CASE, tly Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday. George Mctinirk, about thirty years of age, who was formerly an inmate of a nienlnl hospilnl, was arrested last night on a charge of attempting to murder his brother-in-law, George Bcrrett, a resident of Devonport. AlcGuirk, having been refused entrance to Berrett's house, attempted to break down the back door. Berrett stepped outside and threatened AlcGuirk with the police. The latter turned to leave the premises. Suddenly, it it alleged, he seized what appeared to be a knife and stabbed Berrett in the neck. Berrett was found in a pool of blood. The wound missed the main artery but went through the muscles of the neck to the vertebrae.
Berrctt, after he had been attended to by a doctor, was removed to the hospital. His condition is serious, but it is not supposed that the result will be fatal.
