MOTORING PARTY FIRED UPON. A WOMAN .WOUNDED. By Telegraph.-Press Association, lnvercargill, Last Night. A singiilnr shooting affair occurred last niglil. A motoring party was lea"ing a residence when a married womaa, ills, Buchanan, appeared and fired six snot* from a revolver, wounding one of the occupants, Miss .McKay, in the arm. The assailant, who has been caretaker of a house during the owner's absence in England, is supposed to be suffering from menial a!>. rratiou.
Juvercnrgill, Later. Maud lliiehaunu was arrested i'>night on a charge of having Attempted to murder Vera McKay. Mrs. ISuchauiiu was charged .before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded. Hail was not applied for. The police cnipiiries so far throw no new light on the shooting. It seems clear Hint Buchanan has entertained a grudge against Miss McKay, but just what the nature of that grudge was is not definitely known. Mrs. Buchanan and the McKays had been on friendly 'terms up to some months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan looked after Air. AleKay's house during the hitter's trip to America a year or two ago, and continued to live with Air. AleKay's family for live iiion tlis after their return home. Since then some estrangement occurred, and relations had been strained.
Vera McKay, daughter of David 'McKay, was shot through the fleshy part of her arm near the elbow. She is not seriously hurt.
It is stated that Airs. Buchanan has been suffering from periodical nervous instability.
