BONELESS MEAT AGAIN
Jit the House of Commons recently (writes a London correspondent), Mr. Wiitt. M.l'. for Glasgow, asked the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention had been called to the quantities of boneless meat which were, being imported into this country from New Zealand and Australia; if so, was lie aware that much of it had been condemned by the local authorities, but that this condemnation was accompanied l>y a stateinunt to the effect that it was impossible to examine every box to find out all the faulty; and whether, in these circumstances, he would issue instructions forbidding meat in that form to lie imported? Mr. Burns said: "Considerable quantises of boneless meat are imported into this countrv from New Zealand and also some front Australia, but I am not aware that in'recent months there has been any exceptional condemnation of it in England and Wales, with which alone 1. am concerned in this matter; or that the condemnation lias been accompanied liy a statement to the effect mentioned. As regards- the last part of | this question, I may draw attention to the foreign meat regulations which I lately issued, and which will come into force <in Ist January next. The regulations will have the effect of preventing I the importation for consumption in lingI land and Wales of meat of the class referred to."
