, The warm dry season hitherto experienced had the ell'ect of oarlv developing plant life, and one of the results is that the New Plymouth Horticultural' Society is favoured with excellent entries for its spring show, to be held in the Theatre Royal to morrow, Thursday, opening at ±W p.m. It is unfortunate, perhap:'., that the early roses have in some gardens finished iloweriny, but we know of several verv line exhibit.- of roses which will come forward, and which will demonstrate to the full the remarkable -uitabililv of New Plymouth for liie cultivation of llowers. We hear uf several large entries of carnations, sweet ,pea- and pansie-. possibly the most popular llower in the gardens, are to be largely represented. Apart from local amateurs there will be big displays of blooms by .Messrs .lames laird and Sou-, of Wangauui; •). Wciglitman and Sons, of Awaliuri; R. Mclx. Morrison, Stratford: Morshcad Nursery Co., New Plymouth; anil .(. li. Duncan, Wcstown. the decorative section, for bouquets and Jloral designs, promises t<j lie a verv attractive one. The catalugue in the vegetable classes is a large one, and we have no doubt that the quality will be above the averago. Amongst the novelties will be specimens of the California!! thiallv, not shown as utility or beauty plants, but in order that farmers and gardeners may learn what this pest is really like, and what it is not.
