WAREA v. OKATO. Writes our Warea correspondent: — f The second cricket match of the season ■ took place on {Saturday- last, when Wa- I rea met Okato at Okato. The day was tine and there was a good attendance at the match. Okato won the toss and batted first, but they did not make much of a stand, their wickets falling very lastly, the total runs being only 15. Warea rattled up 47 over the number secured by their oponents. B. Anderson was top scorer with 12 runs and F. Jenkins was next with 10. The two Australians, McClure and Warburton, who gen- I crally account for a big score, were olf color. After the match the visiting I team was entertained at afternoon tea by the good Jadies of Okato. The following are the scores: .Warea —I'\ Jenkins, run out, 10; 13. Anderson, c and It Gordge, 12; T. E. Larking, li Gordge, 1; C. \V. Corbett, b Corbctt, II; R. Julian, c and b Moore. 0; A. McChirc, b .Moore, 5; J. C. Leedoin, b Corbett, li; li. ,1. Warburton, b Moore, , 0; 11. Wilson, li AJeClure, 2; extras, 2; total, la. \\ area thus won by 32
runs. NOTES. I By "Semper Ainieo"). The I'uitcl Service li team journeyed out t" Kgmout Village on Saturday last, and after a very interesting game beat the home team by 24 runs. Egmont Village batted lirst, and, thanks mainly to the stonewalling tactics of T. Kiiisella and the steady baiting of O'Hyrnc, their score was run up to about -111 for two wickets. However, Southall managed at last to get though Kinsella's solid defence, likewise Dixo:i through O'Byrnc's, and the rest of the wickets fell fairly rapidly. Coiled Service "then batted, and, owing to some spirited batting by Preshaw. a very line innings by Dixon, a few useful inns from Diuniss and Pfaakucu, and the inability of „uc or two of the Villagers to hoid catches, they passed the home team's total with four wickets in hand. O'Byrne bowled very well indeed, ami although he was the chief sufferer by the bad fielding, finished up with an excellent average. The fielding of the .Service men, under the circumstances, was better than usual, although I expect the long grass must have a little credit for- stopping a number of runs. Southall and Dixon bowled fairly well for their side.
Fire Brigade gave United Service A a very good run, chiefly with the aid of a very good innings by Ballot, another by Hooker, and also a very serviceable stand by "Mr. Extras." Sad to relate, both Service teams are sorely in need of a good wicket keeper. But for the fact that his bowling is indispensable, the A team has an excellent keeper in the Kev. Colvile. lie' bowled excellently against Fire Brigade, and perhaps it was just as well that lie was not asked to keep wickets. Hooker and Billing both bowled well for Fire Brigade, but JMackay and Wood carried too many guns for them. Wood played a very forceful innings, and by liis fearless hitting undoubtedly saved his side from defeat. In his innings of 55, he hit no less than eleven fours. Great credit must also be given to Asher for his very useful score.
On the whole, the tickling of both teams was fairly good. High School were very unfortunate in losing their match against-New il'lymoutii. Tliey batted like Trojans for a win, and ran. their total up to within three runs of their opponents' score. 1 must give them credit for their sterling 'performance, and had their last man not been doubtfully run out, it is almost certain to presume that even more credit should be given them.
For New Plymouth. Williams, McLaren and Cook did most of the scoring. Without McLaren's usual lucky score, it looks as if the town loin would have made a sorry display. Severae and Ward howled well for the School and kept the runs down considerably. Although most of the boys scored runs, only two (McArthur and Severne) were aide to make any lengthy stand against the good bowling of Whittle and Muhloon. From what I can see, the boys are making steady improvement!" and in a few weeks will take a lot of heating by any of tac other Saturday competition teams.
The Xew Plymouth team to play I'liit-i'il Service "A" on the rieercntioii (irounds this afternoon at 2 o'clock is as follows: -- Lish, Williams. McLaren. Whitlli.. Cook, I'arker. Maker. Mnhloon. •Mills, McAlluin, Stohr: emergency. Horner.

Xew South Wales has selected i powerful combination to do battle against South Australia at Adelaide on (lie liltli. The team is as follows:Carter, Xoble. Tnunper. S. Orcgorv, E. L. Waddiy. Bardsley. Macartney,"Cotter, Hopkins, Emery, and E. !•'. M'addy, with Howden twelfth man.
