CLOSING MILLS IN THE WAIRAKAPA. By Telegraph.— Pieaa Association, Masterton, Decern In f i. Owing to the reduced demand for timber at prevailing prices Ibe timber trusts have decided to close their sawmills for the time being. The mills in this district belonging to the Wairarapa I "&wmilK'is' Association have notified employees that work is to lie stopped in a few days. Some joiners and carpenters are just now out of work. The depression in the building trade is being felt by tradesmen acutely.
SOUTHLAND MILLS CLOSING. t Invercargill, Last Night. r. In accordance with the resolution of s last month, the sawmills in Southland ( will be closed down to-morrow. About I 35 mills, employing upwards of 701) , men, will be affected.
