Arnst rowed -2S to ) the minute at the start, but settled down to 25 to the minute, lie continued at a strong pare, being paced by young Braitkwaite, an amateur, over) the latter half of the distance. Tiebig fellow rowed well all through, and finished strongly. The time for the full I distance has nut leaked out, but it was evidently very satisfactory to the friends of the ex-cyclist.

Webb was also out. He made a fast burst over a mile and a-lialf, the first mile being cut out in a little over six minutes. The champion rowed h splendid style. Hi- started nil' with a long powerful stroke, 28 to the minute, but settled down to a 25 rate. It was !a. very pretty bit of sculling. WM>b ,'is now doing 'more hard rowing. Most of his work so far in the boat has been of a slow order. Both men are in 'excellent health and spirits, and the supporters of each are confident.
