ATTEMPTED MURDER.
PRISONER AND GAOLER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, December 2. At the Police Court to day the convict Joseph Xnrman was charged with having attempted to murder Gaoler Alexander Armstrong, of Terrace-Gaol. In the course of his evidence Armstrong stilted that on the morning of November 20 accused was engaged in the carpenters' shop at the prison. Wheu witness entered the shop accused was making a drawing on a piece of wood. Witness passed by and entered into conversation with the officer in charge. While they were looking at some uuwork witness received a heavy blow on the right side of the neck, and subsequently he discovered that he hail been wounded. The medical evidence was to the effect that the wound was a serious one. Had it been half an inch further to the front it must have been fatal. A chisel could have caused the injury. Accused said that all he had done he had done because of the bad treatment he had received. He was committed for trial.
