SUPREME COURT.
AUUKLAUD SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. At the Supreme (Jourt to-day, a young man named Kegmald William Service ivas arraigned upon a charge of having indecently assaulted a little girl on October 11 and also upon two further counts of having attempted to commit offratces of a more serious nature. The jury, after a short retirement, found the prisoner guilty on all counts. His Honor remanded him for sentence until Wednesday morning. Three men, Alfred Jenkins, Frank Fox and Frank Stephen Blackwood, stewards of the s.s. Athenic, pleaded not guilty to a charge of having assaulted ail elderly man named Kyngdon so as to cause aetual bodily harm. It appeared from the evidence given for the prosecution that the three accused came ashore 011 the afternoon of October 21) and started drinking, la making their way back to the wharf they were 10clmed to be hilarious. It was alleged that they Had deliberately bumped into Kyngdon as he approached from the opposite direction, knocking him down and causing a hip hone to be fractured. The defence was that the bumping was accidental. The jury returned with a verdict of guilty, but with a strong recommendation to mercy. l'risone~s were remanded for sentence till n;xt Wednesday.
DCA!'.i)JN SESSIONS. Duncdin, Thursday. George Smith, for ill-treating " his sister-in-law, was sentenced at the Supreme Court to four years' imprisonment, and Charlotte Smith, his wite, to twelve months' imprisonment. Dnnedin, Last Night.
At the criminal sittings to-day Benjamin Barker was found guilty of indecent assault on a girl nine years ot age, sentence being deterred, 'l'he case against Mary Cresswell, charged with performing an illegal operation, was not completed when tlie Court rose. WELLINGTON SESSIONS. Wellington, Thursday. Air. Justice Cooper to-day sentenced Gilbert Lnngdon, 19 years of age, to two years' imprisonment for stealing a horse and some cattle. Wellington, Last Night. At the Supreme Court to-day Frank Carr, charged on several counts with stealing cattle, was found not guilty.
