Redman's Bill to remove Catholic disabilities and alter the accession oath was read a first time oy 235 to 48, after Mr. P. A. McArthur's opposition, which was based on the argument that the measure struck at the guarantee of Protestant succession and also that Roman Catholics never extended toleration to others.
