" NOT DEAD YET."

To the Editor. Sir,—Jersey people will well remember Air. Ciriihths purchasing at Mr. Watkin's sale, the heifer call by "Yankee Sweet" from Mr. Watkins' great vow "Queen .Beauty' for what was then considered a remarkable price viz:—£lo. Though suffering from a bad cold when delivered, the calf soon shook that oil' and grew into a strong, handsome | heifer, and owing to the special attention bestowed upon her owing to tlie value placed upon her, she soon out-1 grew her companions. l''or the lirst iwo or three months after the sale she was in .Mr. Urilliths' care and was then sent to tlie farm at Oorbett Road,! where she lias been ever since, and is now. We shown mention that Mr Watkins named her "Beauty's Sweet.'' When she was sent to tlie larm Mr. Urilliths kept at his home a much younger heifer calf from "Magnet's I'eggy," which was to be kept by him 1111111" it was weaned. Aboia a month

later whilst Mr. Griffiths was absent from New Plymouth, this daughter of •'Magnet's Peggy" died whilst m a lit. The news oi our niislortune soon became known (for Jersey breeders always take a kindly interest m one another) but as the story travelled round, it changed and people'were told we ban lost •■Beauty's Sweet," Hie £4(l calf. We knew nothing of this rumour until about four inuu'uis ago when Mr. .> »iI kins expressed his sympathy to Mr. I Griffiths for losing "Beauty's Sweet.'' j Mr. Griffiths at once explained that "Beauty's Sweet" was quite the live-

liest thing on the farm and that it was the daughter of "Magnet's Peggy" that died. On Saturday last many fanners were deeply interested in the catalogue of our sale, but our friends tell us tnat those who had heard of the supposed death of "Beauty's Sweet" were puzzled to find her in the catalogue as lot No. 52 and for sale. Hence this letter. Our catalogue has been most carefully prepared and we have done everything possible to make it not only attractive, but devoid of the slightest possible

error. We are not offering any ghosts —"Beauty's Sweet" is the very material and can'be easily be picked' out from flic herd by anyone who knows .Mr. Watkins' ' beautiful cow "yucca Beauty" owing to the remarkable likeness between mother and daughter from the shoulder backwards, and by her plain head which she Inherits from her father. Were it not for this plain head, we would have entered her for the New Plymouth show as in every other J respect we have not seen her equal this season. She is a beautiful heifer and when she is led into the ring at the sale on Friday, the 27th, people will perhaps realize that at £4O last year she was a cheap calf.—We are, GRIFFITHS AND CORNWALL. 'Advi.
