EGMONT ELECTION.
To the Editor. Sir,—l notice a writer under the liom-de-plnme of "Disgusted" Ims used my name in connection with .Mr. Dive and the second ballot. This letter has every appearance of coming from the same 411.1 rter ns many other slimy effusions written against me over various pen names. 1 wish merely to say in reply that my candidature was conducted, 111 the. first place, to deal a blow at the Government, and to -secure the seat for myself if possible; and now that it is not possible for me to fight further on my own behalf, I am doing all I can to retain the seat for the Opposition Party. In Hmvke's Bay, Timaru, and Wellington the defeated Government candidates are now concentrating their forces in support of the Government nominees, and surely a similar Jusion in the Opposition interest in Egmont should not make any one "Disgusted" excepting a rabid supporter of the Government, who fears the loss of the seat. —I am, etc., (J. A. WILKINSON.
