BRITISH EDUCATION BILL.
POINTS TO SETTLE. London, November 20. 'ilie limes says the chief points upon which nil agreemeut lias not beon reached in regard to the Education Bill are: (1) Whether head teachers shall be permitted to give denominational instruction; (2) the question of giving an increased gra7it to schools which "contract out" of the necessity for observing the secular restrictions of the Act; and (I!) the right of the denominations themselves in future to select the schools which are to have the right of "contracting out.'' The Archbishop of Canterbury ask* that all head teachers in all' future "eonacil" schools be free to volunteer to give denominational instruction. The Minister, Mr \V. Runeiman, it present, is not authorised to concede this freedom to any liend teacher. The Tablet, commenting on the compromise, declares: "Catholic children must be taught the Catholic religion in Catholic schools by Catholic teachers under Catholic supervision." NORLEIIAN REBUKED.
