AMUSEMENTS.
THE BURNS-SQUIRES PICTURES. There was a good audience last night at the Theatre lioyal when Messrs. MacMahon, Geach and Carroll produced the famed pictures of tho Burns-Squires boxing contest recently fought in Sydney. Leading up to this, the "star" -performance, the proprietary put on au excellent "first part.' The leading feature comprised some magnificent pictures of the great Olympic Games in London, including the start, scenes on the road, and final of the great Marathon race, showing the nerve-straining efforts of Durando to roach the goal, and the interference by officials which is held in some quarters to have brought about his defeat. There were also mussed drills, n most realistic swimming race, vaulting with the pole, and the arrival of thou- Majesties King Edward and Queen Alexandra at the Stadium to open the games. "An interrupted outing'' and "Baby" wfere the best of the humorous films, and there were some of intense dramatic interest. After the interval, "Bill" Squires gave an exhibits of skipping and ball-punching-, and a iriiT.riiv four-rounds spar followed between him and A. Lovegrove, a local amateur. By this time the audience hail been largely augmented by menfolk win. were concerned only with this part >f the programme. Tho pictures of the great fight were followed intently, and the audience got a very good idea of , the strenuoiisness and usages of a big boxing contest. The pictures we-e clear, and the various incidents ,vere loudly applauded, particularly those in favor of the Australian.
