WRECK OF A BARQUE.
Melbourne, November 14. Cape Otway reports that a lourmastcd barque, the Falls of Halladale, bound from New York to Melbourne, has been wrecked at the mouth of the Curdle river. No news is given of the crew. ESCAPE OK THE CREW. LITTLE CHANCE OF SALVAGE. Received 14, 0.45 p.m. Sydney, Saturday. The Falls of Halladale struck about 3 o'clock this morning. Two boats were launched. A heavy sea was running at the time. The boats reached land near the Bay of Islands. The crew escaped without saving anything. There is little probability of saving the cargo. The vessel may go to pieces at any moment. The barque was in the breakers before land was sighted. FURTHER PARTICULARS. Received 16, 0.40 a.m. Melbourne, Saturday. It was bright moonlight when the Falls of Halladale struck, but a deceptive mist hanging over tho horizon led the captain and officers to believe that they were ten miles off the land. When they really discovered the position they were less than half &■ mile from the rocks, and travelling under full sail. There was no time to get the anchor out. An attempt was made to change the course. There was not room to turn the ship round. She struck amidships, and lies hard and fast, with all sails set. There is a large general cargo aboard for Sydney and Melbourne.
