A SOBER CITY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Saturday. Notwithstanding the tremendous number of people in town for the show, cases of drunkenness yesterday were very few. The police say tlrerc was a minimum of drunkenness for "people's .day," and no cases of robbery or pock-et-picking have been reported. All the places of entertainment were crowded last night. All the hotels were full, the passages being utilised for shakedowns, but the town was never more orderly, and the crowds were well behaved.
SUSPECTED INCENDIARISM. Nelson, November R A Arc occurred at Mr. Maitlaad's residence in Trafalgar street late last night. This was the third within 30 hours. Incendiarism is suspected, as a .quantity of refuse and paper soaked; with kerosene was found where the fire had started. A housemaid heard someone running past a window, and* search was made. An outhouse was found to bo on fire. The flames were extinguished without 'much damage beiwt done.
, A PUBLIC-SPIRITED CimZEN. Maaterton, Saturday. Dr. Hosking, who has teen a resident of Masterton for the past thirteen years, has been greatly impressed with the system of public baths in various cities of the United States. He now oilers £SOO as a contribution towards the constructing of a swimming bath for women and girls. He will confer with the Borough Council with regard to the early erection and completion of the baths.
