At the Presbyterian Assembly yesterday the committee on finance recommended that assessment at 5 per cent. be made upon the income of the funds, except the sustcntation fund of Otago, and that assessments on the congregations be as follows:—Auckland Presbytery £lO4 ss, Hawke's Bay £42 10a, Taranaki £IB 10s, Wangunui £4O 10s, Wellington £OO, Nelson £ls 15s, Westlaivd £lO 15s, Chriatchurch £o7,TimaTn £43 15s, Oamarit £3O, Dunedin £l5O 15s, Clutha £52 10s, Dunatan £l3 15s, Mataura £35, Southland £72 15s—total £BO9 16s. The report was received. The general and financial statistties committee reported that the number attending public worship this year was 71,251, as against 70,124. The return showed tluit 125,059 persons were under pastoral care. The membership of the church was not holding its own with the. natural increase of presbyteries. -The congregational revenue amounted to £115,138 12s lid, a slight decrease from last year. The- church building debt amounted in nine Northern presbyteries to £40,871, and in six Southern presbyteries to £18,075, an increase in the North of £IOOB and :n the, South of £3541.
