WESTERN PARK BAZAAR.

Yesterday afternoon his Worship the Mayor, Mr. G. Tisch, opened at St Mary's Hall a bazaar in aid of the Western Park funds. In performing the ceremony -Mr. Tisch referred to the excellent work done by the Western Park Board—of which Mr. G. W. Browne was the energetic head—in carrying out the extensive works in the grounds. It was necessary that further funds should be raised in' order to complete the work uccording to the plans adopted, and with the object of obtaining this cash a committee of ladies had been working for some months past. He spoke in most effusive terms of the results oi their labors, and wished the

promoters every success. The interior of the hall has been most tastefully arranged, the decoration of the various stalls being light and bright. The lady workers, of whom Mrs. Tisch was president, are deserving of great praise for the range of goods on view and on sale, the articles embracing almost everything from a twopenny doll to .beautifully-executed linen and faucy work. The •■fancy' 1 stall i» the gayest of all, of course, bearing a wealth of cushions, mats, table centres, dolls, and decorative articles generally. No. 2 is the "linen" stall, where the range of white embroidered goods is such as to

appeal to .purses of all capacities. "Pro. duce" has a wide range, from "soft" drinks to cauliflowers, jams, pickles, and so on, and the stall did "roaring business" yesterday. Close h v is the, flowers and pot plants stall, where begonias, wax flowers, feras, and bunches of roses are on sale cheap. lee creams, drinks, and home-made sweets are dispensed at another busy stall, and afternoon tea and supper have a profitable room lo themselves, and the repast set out is very toothsome. A Christmas

tree, all emblazoned with tovs and trinkets mid Hags, a-.id a bran-tub are the children's centre, and there is also a nicely-stocked pottery stall. The

stallholders are as follow; Fancy, Mesdames Tisch, Hell, and Dabb; " linen, Mesdames Ward and Johnston; produce, Mesdamcs G. Corney and B. Cock, jun.; Christmas tree, Misses Amy Ward and Pettie; bran-tub, Miss Johnson. Kach stall has its staff of busy assistants, who are adepts in the art of

coin-gathering. Buttonhole-scllera do excellent business. Last night the stails were all kept busy. The New Plymouth Orchestra played beautifully the evening through, but the orchestra was a I trille loud for the size of the hall. Various competitions were going. The Taranaki Garrison Hand marched to the hall and played several selections nt the evening opening. The bazaar continues to-day, nnd many of the stalls arc being replenished.
