THE MAIN TRUNK.
If JUST PASSENGER TRAIN. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Fully 120 passengers travelled from Wellington and district to Auckland by the first Main Trunk train which arrived here this evening. They wt.t impressed by the scenery en route and also by the various engineering feats seen, as, for instance, the spiral and the Makatote viaduct. Varied opinions were expressed concerning the trip as compared to the old half-sea, halt-rail route, the general view seemingly being i that the new service, despite certain present disadvantages, is the better. Some complaints were voiced as to the distance of Ohakune (where passengers to Auckland have to spend the night) from the railway station. The coldness of the atmosphere in altitudes pussefi through and on the Waimariao Plains was remarked upon by several of the travellers by tile inaugural train. Many of the Wellington contingent went to Rotorua.
