WAVERLEY-WAITOTARA HACK MEETING.

annual meeting 01 the Waverlevnaitotara Club took place yesterday in fine weather, and there was a record attendance. Large fields faced the starter, and the racing was very interesting. Rangihaeta won the Cup and Momohaki Stakes iu good style; the u aitara-owned Shuza won the Morton -Memorial Maiden; and Lingerer stored a long overdue win in the Hurdle Rate. Xicotine gathered in the Prince of Wales Handicap after a good lace with Clmse Mab, and outsiders in Clampett and Kiistv Hew away with the fourfurlong sprint events. The totalisator recorded a larger amount of money than last year, despite the fact th.it five bookmakers who were licensed did good business. The course, lawn, and paddock was in splendid order, and rolled great credit on the caretaker. The WavOrley Brass Band discoursed sweet anisic during the afternoon, and everything passed off smoothly under tlie energetic guidance of Mr. J. W. Eminer- : son. From a good send-off Whimper. Coy, and Clemency took up the running, Astraea and Shuza lying next along the back. At the iour-furlong post Shu/.a started to move up, and coming round the field at the bend had everything settled at the distance, and, galloping in beautiful style, won by five iengtis from Clemency, who beat Astraea by a short neck, and the rest were close up. Time, lmin 31see. A protest against the winner for not carrying weight-for-age was entered through an oversight on the objector's part, and was quickly dismissed.
