NEWTON KING'S REPORT. At the Jlaymarket on Saturday there was mi exceptionally largo entry o' pigs and good competition. Good stores made 27s to 38s Od; small do., Ills to 255; weaners, lis to 17s lid; suckers, Ss to 10s; calves, Is to Is (Id; trap horses, £!l to £l2. At Stratford on Tu-.sday there was an unusually big yarding of'store eattie, with a good entry of springing heifers in the dairy pens. There was a large attendance, with a good sprinkling of buyers, and bidding was active for nearly air classes, all the principal lines being sold either at the hummer or privately. Yearling steers made -40s to •Us, mixed yearlings 31s to 345, hoi''cr" do. 30s to 355, 15- to 18-moiitlis empty heifers 42s to 455, 2-year do. (good) £2 12s, 2'/•>- to 3-year bullocks XI 5s to £4 12s Cd, store cows £2 to £2 12s (id, fresh do. £2 l(is (Id to £2 18s, fat and forward do. £3 10s to £4 ss. In the dairy yards heifers of good quality sold well, but medium and inferior sorts were only saleable at lower rales than of late; good qualify made £5 12s lid to £10; others £3 2s Od io £5 ss; pedigree Ayrshircs £0 to £l3 10s.
L. A. NOLAN & CO.'S REPORT. Poultry.—AVe had a good entry of all I classes, especially broods of ducklings and chickens. We quote:—Hens 2s Id to 2s lOd, roosters Is lOd to 2s 7d, cockerels Is Sd to 2s 9d, ducks Is lOd to 2s 4d, ducklings Is 4d to Is Od, guinea fowls 3s Od per pair, broods of chickens Os to 7s, broods of ducklings 7s to lis (id, broods of turkey chicks 3s, bantams 2s.
At the jnart sundries sold at usual rates. The balance of drapery realised satisfactory prices. Fruit—The first shipment of strawberries arrived this week, and realised from Od to Is 3d per lb. Shipments will arrive on Tuesdays and Fridays every week during the season.
VIOKERS & STEVENS' REPORT. Messrs. Viekers & Stevens report that there was a large entry of cattle in their Jnglewood yards on Wednesday, and most lots changed hands at slightly lower rates than at late sales. Mixed yearlings made from £1 3s to £1 12s (id. veinliug steers £1 los to £2 Is, 15-nionths heifers £1 IDs to £1 los, empty heifers £2 to, £2 10s, store cows £1 10s to £2 18s, springers £3 to £5 los.
STRATFORD WOOL, HIDE, SHEEPSKIN & TALLOW SALE. YOUNG, HOBBS & CO.'s REPORT. On Tuesday 27th ult. we hold our monthly sale of the alrovc produce. We submitted a very attractive catalogue, comprising some' 200 llides, 1000 calfi skins, bones, tallow, etc. Buyers were as usual in attendance from all parls of the Dominion. We quote: Hides—Butchers' cow, medium 4%d to s'/ 2 <l; settlers' cows 3%d to 4>/j,d; butchers' ox, medium s'/id to 5 l / 3 d; yearlings 4d to 4%d. sheepskins—Butchers' woollies 3% to to 4>/ 3 d; salted 2s Od to 4s fld; short wool 2 3 /, d; pelts Od; part dry 2s 7d. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKET. There was a small yarding of fat sheep, an exceptionally large yarding of fat cattle, and an average yarding of other classes of stock at the Addington yards on Wednesday. There was a good attendance of buyers, and prices were on the whole firmer. In point of numbers, the entry of store sheep was about equal to that of the previous week, but the class of sheep offered differed considerably, more than half the entry comprising ewes and lambs of various ages and classes, the balance being made up of a few pens of hoggets in the wool, shorn four-tooth wethers, and mixed shorn two-tooths. In shorn sheep one or two lines comprised particularly forward wethers, some being practically lit for the butcher, and these sold up to 15s 4d. Other shorn wethers (four-tooth) realised from 12s to 12s fid: shorn two-tooths, mixed sexes, 10s to lis lid; hoggets (in wool), 12s to 14s Hid. The ewes were mostly good, though the greater portion consisted of old sheep, and the lambs at foot varied iroiii medium to extra good. For other ewes and lambs the demand was slightly less brisk than last week, which was probably due to the increase in numbers. A line of extra good - two and four-tooth elves fin the wool), w"lh lambs at foot, made 10s to 10s Od; inferior. Ss lid; ami extra good, lis Od. The yarding of fat sheep was normal, but as supplies have to last for a fortnight, there being n o sale next week, competition was keen and prices unusuallv high. Good wethers fetched from 23s to 46s Od; extra, 24s to 30s 3d; medium, 20s to 22s 8d; others, 17s Od to 20s; ewes, 20s to 255; medium, 18s (id to 20s; lighter, 10s lid to 17s sd. There was a good yarding of lambs and large demand. Prices were: Good, 13s Od to 20s; medium, 17s Od to IBs 0d; others, 15s 3d to 17s 3d. The yarding of fat cattle comprised 478 head. This is .the largest number of cattle that has been penned at Addington for sometime past. The quality throughout was excellent., but owing to the largo number entered the prices showed a decline from the previous market of £1 per head, anil (id per 1001b. for beef, The range of prices was: Steers,. £0 17s Od to £l2 10s; heifers, £5 5s to £9 2s Od; cows, £4 "s (id to £lO 2s Od (equal to from ISs to 28s for beef). For pigs, the market was rather dull, and showed si decline. Choppers fetched £3 10s; heavy baconerd, s(is to 07s (id; lighter, 48s to 545; large porkers, 41 s to 545; lighter, 34s to 425.
