TRAGEDY AT MANGAWEKA.
SUICIDE AND ATTEMTED MURDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Taihape, Thursday. News of a tragedy at Mangaweka was received here to-dav. A man named Cribb cut his wife's throat last nignt and then committed suicide by jumping over a cliff. An inquest is being lield to-day- T , NT- , i Wellington, Last Xight. A telegram from Taihape states that details of the ilangaweka tragedy are meagre. It appears that F. A. Cribb, a laborer, aged Mi, generally a sober'lnan. had been drinking during tlie last day or two. His wife an invalid, asked him to case her back. Soon after, he placed his arm round his wife's neck he lifted her chin and cut her throat. Before jumping over the clilV he must have cut his owii. lie fell 110(1 feet, his llead being battered. The woman is alive and may possibly recover. There is no due at present as to the motive. Only evidence of identification was taken today. and the inquest was adjourned.
