Palinerston N., Last Night, The weather was line, though wind;-, for the opening day of the Mamiwatu Show, and the attendance was quite equal to the average lor a lirst uay. Lord Fluukct formally opened the show, congratulating the Association on the continued progress of the great agricultural carnival, which might lie termed world-famous. Judging to-day was confined to the pig, poultry and home industries sections. •In the poultry classes, Wyandottes and Minorcas were strongly represented, .Messrs. Bannister, Pickeri'tg and Chapman scooping most of the prizes. Jii the pig classes Slack Bros, showed the iirst and champion Berkshire boar and sow, the judge considering they would be unbeaten at any show in the Dominion. The champion Devon boar was exhibited by Ness Bros, and sow by Mrs. B. H. Slack. «. L. Levin's Yorkshire boar was award id' champion, and B. Gray showed tha champion boar in small and middle Yorkshires. Dome industries were "\\ cellelit entries, home-made bread being the best the judge had seen, only three points covering the prize-winners, ami the winner securing the maximum points. -Miss E. Abbott won the bareback riding competition, and Mr. 0. Donnelly the best gentleman rider. There were over thirty entries for the maiden hunters' leaping, which was won by Lynn McKelvie's entry, with 11. 0. Hartley's Vendetta second, Miss K. Abbott won the ladies' driving, and Mrs. Bull the best ladies' trap a'i:l horse. The butter-fat competition was won by Griffiths and 'Cornwall's (New Plymouth) "Granny's Girl," with 288 points; ,T. Hurray, junr.'s (Woodville) and \V. V. Harris' (Kata) entries being bracketed second place with 217 points and K. G. C. Dormer's (I'eilding) third with 210 points.
