ANNUAL MEETuNi.I N.Z. ASSOUA- _ TUUN. liy Telegraph. —rress Association. Wellington, Last Night. About thirty delegates attended the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association to-nighi. Mr. Jiakolm lioss presided. Jle said the New Zealand Association originated its proposal that Australasia should com puie as a nation for the Davis Cup. The result was that the Cup was now held by Australia and New Zealand, and other nations would have to light for it on Australian soil. "Notwithstanding our lead in the matter," ho continued, "we have been cavalierly treated, especially in the matter of representation by the Australian Association. The idea, therefore, is that New Zealand should in these contests have the status of a nation and be able to enter its own team in the contests. CanaJa and South 'Africa are recognised as separate nations, and there is absolutely no reason why Nov. ~eakuid with a ■greater playing strength than the other Australasian States should not 'be placed on the same footing." He spoke approvingly of the decision regarding a new ball, which was excellent in every respect. Most sports we :e threatened with the danger of professionalism or semi-professionalism. Wlnt they should desire most was not the. thousands of onlookers but the healthy participation of the young men and women in those amateur sports of the playing lields of the Dominion t'nat. 1 make for sound bodies and sane minds. It was resolved that the Association resign from the Australasian Association after the forthcoming Davis Cup competition. The delegates considered the proposed new rules in committee. The vlecni.u of officers was postponed.
