DISTRICT NEWS.
WAITaKA. (From Our Own Correspondent). Last Monday evening the Waitant Bowling Club's committee members held a meeting, and it was decided to officially open the season on Thursday, November oth, and to invite members of tile other Taramiki clubs to their green for the occasion, iiie secretary was instructed to Ui.e steps to have the club affiliated with the Taramiki Bowling Association. Invitations have 'been received for the local members to attend the opening days at the Kltham and inglewood greens. .Mr. Jennings opponent for the Taumnranui peat, Air. i>owater, Jias addressed meetings at the ltaetihi end of the electorate. It is generally considered that Air Jennings will be returned The Returning Officer for this electorate, Air. Thos. .Buchanan, lias returned > from a trip to the Raetihi end, and he states that the place is developing rapidly and that ther b will be a large number of voters. Very few whitebait have shown themselves in the Waitara river this year. It is quite a luxury to get a few pints.
The schooner Amelia Sims, which has been berthed at tin wharf unloading superphosphates, was lowed to sea by the Aluuakau on Thursday morning. The liev. K. T. Read has returned home from a trip through the Tauniaranui electorate, wliefe he has lien working for the no-license cause. It is probable the local freezing works will start operations for the season about November 10th.
