THEOSOPHICAL DOCTRINES.
GROWTH 01' SPIRITUALISM. DISCUSSED BY ANGLICAN SYNOD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At the Anglican byaod this afternoon, tiie Rev. 11. D. Snow moved: "That this Synod views with alarm the spread of tlicosophical doctrines amongst church people, and that tire Bishop of the diocese be urged to issue a pastoral to the clergy and laity dearly defining the attitude of the Church towards the pantheistic conception of God, the doctrine of reincarnation and other theosophical teachings, which are at variance with the creeds of the Church and the 39 Articles of the Church of JSnglanu." The mover Baid he had recently been struck by the fact that the Warden of St. Joint's College, Auckland, had uuim a remarkable move in connection with spiritualism, and when inquiring about ' that he learned of an alarming outbreak of spiritualism in New Plymouth. This, he believed, had direct connection with a statement made by the Warden of St. John's College (Rev. Scott-Mon-crieff). The Archdeacon of Oamani, he said, had been remarking on the serious falling away in attendance at Sunday schools. Many young people in his own congregation had been greatly attracted towards theostiphical teachings. Some had fallen into the hands of metaphysicians belonging to various schools and mixed up Christian doctrine in an extraordinary maimer with thcosopliical teachings. Mothers came to him repeatedly with appeals on behalf of their children, which showed tint tlieosopliists were making a deliberate attempt to get hold of the young people. Thu motion was seconded by Mr. Fleming. Archdeacon Neild (Mornington) opposed the motion. The discussion was adjourned till tomorrow.
