CHURCH AND NO-LICENSE.
CIIRISTCIIUROH SYNODS ATTITUDE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. ClirisU-hurch, l/ist Night. The debate on the no-license qnes tion was resumed at the UirislcMivch Diocesan Synod this afternoon. The following motion was proposed by Archdeacon Avcrill and carried: "That this Synod, while unable on the cvi-; dence at present before it to express' any authoritative or unanimous opiuion on -the relative merits of lieensf.'. and no license, welcomes every legitimate effort to decrease the many deplorable evils due to intemperance in the use of alcoholic liquors, and commends the whole matter to the earnest and careful consideration of all cnurco people of the diocese." The Rev. Mr. Matthias then moved: "That this ftynod commends no-license as the only available remedy at the present time for the grave and increasing evils of intemperance." After discussion the proposal was lost, the voting being as tollows: Ayes: Ol'ergy 12 laity 18; Noes: Clergy 27, laity 10.
