LABOR TROUBLES.
AN UNPROMISING OUTLOOK. Sydney, October 10. The outlook at the Barrier mines is grave. A conference was held yesterday .between delegates of tnv combined •unions and the Jline Managers' Association.
The nianiigers declined to go back on their promise to meet the non-political unions to-morrow. They explained that the meeting was only called to discuss th e situation.
The unions' delegates, however, relwsed to budge from their decision not to ip-event tile managers by a threat of striking, from meeting the nonpolitical union. A ballot of the combined unions, completed late last night, resulted in the easting of 3.>4 votes for and 430 against a strike. Received 20. 0.20 a.m. Sydney, October 10.
The Harrier crisis has been averted. The non-politieal union, after receiving a deputation of tradespeople, who urged that serious distress was likely to follow n strike, decided to' abandon the conference with tiie mine managers. This removes the <-auße for the combined union strike, which lias been declared off.
