TRAGEDY IN A BANK.
A CLERK SHOT DEAD. BY A BURGLAR. A SUSPECT DISAPPEARS. Received 20, 0.20 a.m. Brisbane, October 19. .1. Muir, junior clerk at tJic Gayuda'li branch of the Commercial Banking Co, of Sydney, was found shot in the ] head at the back of the Bank premises last night A railway porter passing the bank heard tlhe sound of breaking glass, He summoned the police, wno discovered Sluir's body on the the lloor. There were indications of a burglar or burglars having tampered viUJi, and failed to open, the safes I The Bank is a small wooden building.
•Muir is a youtlh of 18. He only recently went to Gayudah. Tire manager was temporarily al),-, sent. Muir took ilia place in sleeping at the bank. He left a boardinghouse to go back for a few minutes liefore tile shots were heard. It is believed a burglar was hiding in the bank, and shot Muir oil entering fflie bedroom. A strange hat and broken lamp were found lying near the body, which bore four revolver wounds and a fifth shot had gone through one of the i tends. A man suspected o'r the crime Ha; disappeared.
