DISPOSAL OF FISH.

MUNICIPAL, MAKKETS ADVOCATED By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night, hi reference to the Christchurelt telegram concerning fish markets, tiie Department's Secretary (Mr. Aliport) states Unit letters have been sent at the direction of the Minister (the Hon. <T. A. Millar) to Auckland, Wellington, and Duncdin, as well as Christchureii. "JAn- some time past.'t h-e said to-day, '•\vc have had a considerable number of complaints from fishermen who are rather out of the way of the markets. They send their Hah. in and gel practically nothing for it. The fish goes into the hands of private dealers, who give what they like. The matter was considered by the Department and it was agreed that the best remedy for the ditliaulty would be the establishwent of public markets, which the municipalities have the power to set up under the Municipal Corporations Act. Such markets Mist in Sydney, and it has been a great success from'the point of view of (he fisherman and the general public alike. ]lt suits both and benefits both. Hi s believed that what is done in Sydney can be done here. There is no reason whv that example should not be followed."
