Kennedy and tiad of ■two mm 011 a number of charges of burglary ill tile islfogwu tfisuwi. ji. is suited that a few weeks ago a resident jn tile neighborhood of (.iriatchurch paid a holiday visit to Sydney, and when ho came back he found that "early all his furniture in his house had been removed, lock, stock and barrel. This modus operandi is described by fire detectives as '"a regular American dodge," and it is the first time a burglary of this nature lias occurred ill the t'antcrbury district. It is nlleged that the men were on a recent night seen at Islington carrying a chest of draiwers (from which tile drawers had been extracted) 011 a couple ot poles .slung on straps attached to tlreir shoulders, and that as soon as they were observed they hurriedly decamped, leaving the empty chest of drawers on the roadside. It is thought that most of Alio furniture lias been burned, hut a number of household ed'eefs, including curtains, were found in the house occupied by one of the men before mentioned. and, as a sequel, they will have to answer to an extra, charge of theft in addition to those charges which have already been preferred against them.
