Allsop informed the shipping reporter of the Pivss that some days belore his vessel called at the Islands a quantity of wreckage, evidently from a sailing vessel which had met with disaster, was washed ashore. The wreckage consisted of a teak wood skylight, a'bcmit seven feet in length, with brass gratings attached, and a portion oi a broken .spar painted white. Captain Allsop said lie thought the spar was a portion of the spanker boom of u sail- ] ing snip. On being informed that it , lifebuoy from the missing Loeli Lomond had been picked up near the Ureal Barrier Jwlftml. Captain AlUnp said he wus strongly of opinion that the wreck- : ag(> washed ashore tu. tfie tnalbams ! had come from that vessel. There were no marks, or letters on the wreckage, but he thought that inquiries made in Melbourne or Newcastle regaling the color of tile Loch Lomond's spars might give some elik*. Laptnm Allsop further stated that if the Loi-h Lomond had been in trouble in Cook straight or even to the northward of Xew Zealand, the currents which set to the south would carry floating wreckage in the direction of the Chatham*.
