By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last JN'ight. Labor Day was observed as a close holiday. The. attraction was the quickstep at tlhe band con,est. The weather was fine at the start, but heavy rain fell at 3.30. The attendance was about 0000 persons. The quickstep was won by Ashburtoji Temperance Band, Lytteltoa Marine being second. Dominion (fuvercargill) third, and Ashlmrton County fourth. The Timaru Pipe Band won the .Highland music event, with As'hbnrtoa second. The test selections are to be played 10-niglit, but the result, is not expected to bo known before midnight. There was a big crowd at the Drill 1 fall to-night to listen to the test selections, the result being as follows: Asliburton Temperance Band, 1; Dunedin Citizens' and Dominion (tie), Elitc( C'liristclmrch), 4.
