GERTIE-PENGUIN COLLISION

A, Pearson, second engineer of the Ger'ie, and J. W. Watson, chief mate of the Gertie, gave evidence. The latter said IIU 1 ;n-iii)n ol 1 In? Gamble, second ollicer of the Penguin', who was on the bridge when the'collision occurred, said if the captain o't the Gertie had starboarded his helm instead of porting it she would have cleared (lie Penguin, lie had the impression that the Gertie's captain had lost his bead. (.'aptain I}. Ktewarl. win) was master of the Penguin when l.iie collision took place, said he could not remember having said the collision would not have occurred had he been on the bridge. The enquiry will be resumed to-morrow.
