The Itawera Dairy Co. will start to make cheese instead of butter -to-day (Thursday).
The value or the fruit grown in New Zealand is now a million pounds a year, according to a statement made liy Air. T. W. Kirk, Ooveriwiient Biologist. Jlr. Kirk added that the industry was only hi its infancy, and the area under fruit culture' was increasing at the rate of over "200 acres a year. A tremendous advance in fruit-growing had lieen, made in the country iliiriog the past few years. The .Meremere Dairy Co. has sold its output of ibutter to 'Messrs. Bcvans and linker. The exact juice is not vet available, lint it is said to he a record in the history of the induslrv (savs the II i-w.-'Ri Star). The agents for Messrs. Ixn'ell and Christinas report that that iiriu is securing aJiout the usual ((uanlity of butter and cheese for the current'season—alHuit ;1500 tons of cheese and about 3000 tons of butter from the North Island, and 30011 tons of cheese in the South Island. In ,both Islands there are likely to be some further contracts for butter.
