Judge Denniston authorises the 11anawatu Times to state that he has -:io intention of retiring from the Bench. Mr. T. F. Diinliill, the Associated Hoard's examiner, will, on his arrival in Wellington, conduct a cantata entitled "Tubal Cain," one of his compositions, which the Wellington Choral Societyhave been practising for some time. Mr. Dunhill is also to play a concerto of Clieig's on the piano, which the society's orchestra will accompany. The lion. Rupert Edward Cecil Loe- j C.uinuess, M.P. for Shoreditch, will one day be one of the richest men in the Empire. The eldest son of Lord Iveagh, he will in the ordinary.course of things inherit one of the greatest fortunes e ver made in the brewing trade. Born in London in 1871, lie went to Eton in 188S, and soon became known as a rowing man and an all-round sportsman. During the South African War he was ill charge of the Irish hospital sent out by Lord Iveagh. He is the brother-in-law of a chief of the MaorL-the Hon. lluia Onslow. The Dunedin Star publishes a rumor that Mr. Justice Denniston contemplates asking for a year's leave of absence next Deceiniber, and that he mav not resumejudicial work thereafter.
Word was received in town yesterday that -Ur. Charles McKoy, of Waitara, lAid died suddenly at. Wanganui yesterday morning. llr. McKoy. it js understood, was taking the first holiday from hoino_ lie had allowed himself for' yean, and intended attending the, races at Wangnuui. Three weeks ago. yesterday Ins nivther, the late Mrs. McKay, died at New l'lymouth after a long life spent; in Taranaki. Mr. MeKov. who was ill years of age, has lived all his life in 'laranaki, and leaves a wife and comparatively young family.
