» CHARGES AGAINST FOKAKER AND HASKELL. New York September 23. The moment Mr. Hearst's attack appeared in his paper, Senator Forakcr withdrew from his engagements to speak at the meetings of Senator Taft the Republican candidate for the Presidency. He announced that he thought his defence of his conduct would be sufficient to clear himself, but he would refrain from speaking lest he should injure Mr. Taft's prospects. Mr. W. J. Bryan, Democratic candidate for the Presidency, declares that Mr. Haskell, Treasurer of the Democratic National Fund, is willing to appear before any tribunal President Boogevelt may name and he (Mr. Bryan) is ■willing that he should do so. Mr. Bryan declares that he must oust Mr. Haskell from office if Mr. Roosearelt, after investigation, supports Mr. Hearst's accusation that Haskell is a tool of the Standard Oil Trust.
